Drills for Basketball – Beginner Basketball Triple Threat Position

When parents start teaching children to shoot the natural tendency is to focus on the hands holding the ball, the arm position and all the upper body items. But a better place to start is from the floor and work your way up. Start off by teaching good fundamental shooting positioning. Squaring up to the basket dominate foot forward, knees bent. This is known as the triple threat position. As soon as a player catches the ball, they should the basket and get into their triple threat stance. It is a good habit to get into this stance even if the players beyond their shooting range because it still allows them to move quickly and utilize the other threats available. It is called the triple threat position as it allows the player the best ability to complete the three offense moves. 1) shoot. 2) pass. 3) dribble. So you can see even if the player is 90 feet away from the basket it still allows for the player to utilize the remaining viable offense moves.
