Beginner Drills for Basketball – Shooting Drills – One Foot Shooting Drill

A basketball shooting fundamentals drill designed to develop a consistent basketball shooting form.

  1. Stand in front of the basket about 2 feet away.

  2. Use the form developed in the partner shooting drill to start developing distance.

  3. Have the player Notice how much upward movement is needed to have the ball effortlessly go through the center of the basket.

The goal with this drill is the player to start developing a consistent movement so that the ball hits the center of the net each time. It is important that the upper arm movement is not forced or rushed. If it is a very young player and they are having problems with the ball reaching the hoop use either a smaller ball or a lower hoop. The upper body should never be forced or strained to make the shot. For a much more detailed and complete guide to shooting consider Tom Nordland’s Swish videos.
