Have Players with ball in hand just on the outside of a line (could be foul line. sideline, baseline, just as long as they have a line as a marker.)
-
1. Have them jump over the line landing in the triple threat position.
2. Then have them jump backwards again landing in the triple threat position.
3. You can combine this with the balance drill to check to see they are landing in a well balanced position.
4. Check to make sure their dominate foot is 2-3 inches in front of there other foot, that they are squared up (you as the coach could replace the basket to square up to if your in the center), and that there feet area about shoulder width apart.
5. At first you want to concentrate on their foot positioning with this drill. Work on them landing with both feet at the same time, so that when they later are catching the ball the have the option of which foot to choose as a pivot.
6. After your players get the foot positioning down then start working on the checklist for the triple threat starting with the rest of the lower body then with the upper body.
Your goal with this drill is for your players to eventually naturally land in the triple threat position without having to think of it. You can also have them jump sideways as a variation of this drill.
